Background Information for The Chronicles of Aertu

Here you will find the background information I compiled for the Chronicles of Aertu.  I felt it was important to hash out the histories and mythologies, prior to writing the story.  In essence, I built a rough draft of the world my story takes place in, before I began formulating the plot.  You will need Microsoft Office or at least a previewer for Office files to read these products.  The first link is a comparative calendar, showing the history of elves, dwarves, and the men of Sudea.  Of note is that the dwarvish calendar is actually older than the elvish one.

CALENDARS

Below are the histories, each intended to be a synopsis of a more extensive historical compilation, commemorating a milestone year for the particular people.  The elvish history gives an account of the creation story for Aertu.

Sudean History

And here is the calendar used for daily accounting in the story, based on the agricultural year for the Kingdom of Sudea.  The weekdays are named after the gods and the goddesses have annual feast days, which always fall on the weekday of their consort god, excepting the goddess Iselle, whose feast falls on the fifth day of the Yule Festival, because her consort rebelled against the Allfather and became the Nameless One.  The twelve months are each thirty days, with five six-day weeks.  Yule is usually five days long and acts to bridge the thirty day lunar cycle to the three-hundred sixty-five day solar year, but every four years has a leap day, making Yule six days long.

Here is a background paper for the intelligent races of Aertu:

And finally, a far from complete account of the nations of Aertu, with the Kingdom of Sudea conspicuously absent, as well as the northeastern kingdoms.  The fact is, I was itching to get on with writing the story and I had enough background to roll with it.  At the very end of the document is a very useful reference link for determining population levels in a Medieval setting.

  1. Love your books… can’t wait for more .. I check like once a week for months on end for the next installment. . Any possibility on getting a maybe release date?

    1. Hello,
I’m so glad you have enjoyed my story so far. I wish I could deliver good news that the next installment is right around the corner, but unfortunately I haven’t made much progress in the past eleven months. Between a military change of station, a new job that keeps me at work late on a regular basis and a new house that came with a basement finishing project, I haven’t had any time to devote to writing. I had hoped to publish by Christmas, but I only have a couple chapters so far.
